BREAKING: Trump advisory says campaign to investigate Wisconsin voters who falsely claimed “indefinitely confined”

December 15, 2020 | 20:45 ET

Trump 2020 Strategic Advisor Boris Epshteyn joined Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic this evening.

During the broadcast, Epshteyn said President Trump’s legal team is working to put together an investigation that will identify voters in Wisconsin who falsely claimed the status of “indefinitely confined.”

Under Wisconsin law, a voter may claim the status of “indefinitely confined” and thereby vote by mail and bypass Wisconsin’s strict voter identification laws. More than 220,000 people in Wisconsin claimed the status of “indefinitely confined,” a significant increase over past years. Former Vice President Biden carried Wisconsin by roughly 20,000 votes.

On Monday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court rebuffed local election officials who wrongly suggested that voters in the 2020 election could claim the status of “indefinitely confined” based on COVID-19. The court said that if voters falsely claimed they were indefinitely confined, “…their ballots would not count.” But the court made clear a determination must be made in every case before tossing a ballot.

Epshteyn told Bannon the campaign will fight on and exhaust every single option to identify as many illegal votes as possible. The process of identifying those who falsely claimed the status of indefinitely confined is time consuming and costly, but Epshteyn said the Wisconsin Supreme Court left open a “window” that the Trump campaign will “drive a truck through.
