Did Kemp and Raffensperger Lie About Georgia’s Election Investigations?

December 18, 2020

ATLANTA — For weeks, Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger have vigorously defended their state’s handling of the 2020 presidential election. Despite evidence of incompetence and malfeasance, Kemp and Raffensperger have lashed out at those who have criticized Georgia’s botched election.

On November 30, Raffensperger told the world that his office had more than 250 active investigations into the 2020 election. The news sent shockwaves as many believed Georgia was engaged in a significant dragnet to get to the bottom of what happened in the 2020 election. Then on December 4, Governor Kemp’s office repeated the claim in a press release.

A few days later, Raffensperger joined “ABC This Week with George Stephanopoulos” to discuss the 2020 election in Georgia. “We have over 250 cases right no…but right now we don’t see anything that would overturn, you know, the will of the people here in Georgia,” Raffensperger told Stephanopoulos.

But a recent review by the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution found Kemp and Raffensperger overstated the true numbers by more than 100 cases.

The ALC determined that the actual number of investigation in Georgia about 130 and the vast majority of those cases relate only to procedural matters, not fraud.

It took Kemp and Raffensperger’s offices some 10 days after the initial misinformation to correct the record. In the meantime, they repeated the inflated figures all while assuring Georgians that they would get to the bottom of what happened in the presidential election.

Pardon me, but at this point, I don’t think anyone should trust anything Kemp & Co. say.
