FAA: Gov’t May Use ‘Deadly Force’ Against Aircraft Over Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Yesterday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Temporary Flight Restriction over the airspace in Middle Tennessee in response to the bombing in downtown Nashville.

The FAA classified the airspace over Nashville as “National Defense Airspace” and issued a warning stating “pilots who do not adhere to the following procedures may be intercepted, detained, and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel.”

In addition, pilots who violate the restriction face even more dire consequences. The alert states, “The United States government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat.”

The notice reads the restrictions are in effect until December 30 at 4:45 PM CT.
